The story begins when an amnesiac robot falls from the sky. Since he has nowhere to go, he is taken in by a kindly couple who repair robots for a living, the Harunos, to work as their assistant. This robot (who is called 8-chan, because the number "8" is emblazoned on his chest) becomes a skilled member of the robot shop, as well as a good friend to their children, Takeru and Yumeko, while also befriending the other robots the Harunos invented.
