In São Paulo in the late 1950s is Maria Luiza, a conservative girl and completely dependent on two men: her father, Ademar, and her husband, Pedro. However, his life takes a completely different turn when Pedro disappears while traveling to Rio de Janeiro to set up a restaurant. Maria Luiza, of course, follows her husband's tracks, but ends up turning the sophisticated restaurant into a nightclub. In Rio de Janeiro, this young woman then begins to discover a new world in the company of feminist and liberal women and to the sound of Bossa Nova.
