Ran

Japan, 16th century. Hidetora (Tatsuya Nakadai), the powerful head of the Ichimonji clan, decides to divide his assets between his three sons: Taro Takatora (Akira Terao), Jiro Masatora (Jinpachi Nezu) and Saburu Naotora (Daisuke Ryu). With the first is the head of the feud, the lands and the cavalry. The other two are left with some castles, lands and the duty to help and obey Taro. However, Hidetora demands to live in the castle of some of them, keep their thirty men, their title and the status of grand lord, but Saburu, the favorite, foreseeing the disasters that would come with such a decision, is contrary to the paternal decision. So he is expelled from the feud and ends up being welcomed by Nobuhiro Fujimaki (Hitoshi Ueki), who is impressed with his decision to oppose his father and marry him with his daughter. Hidetora goes to his castle, which now belongs to Taro, and is not well received, as his firstborn is encouraged by Kaede (Mieko Harada), his wife, to be free to make decisions and head the feud. Kaede wants to avenge the death of her parents, who were killed by Hidetora in a fire, and holds a lot of bitterness and equal rejection. Hidetora feels this when she goes to Jiro's castle and thus finds herself isolated in her ex-empire and very close to insanity.
