Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne are two extremely stupid men. When Lloyd takes Mary Swanson to the airport, a beautiful woman who goes to Aspen, Colorado, believes that Mary lost a suitcase. In fact, she "forgot" in the lobby, because inside it is a large sum to pay her husband's ransom, but before the kidnappers grab the suitcase, Lloyd retrieves it and tries to hand it over. As the flight has already departed and he is attracted to Mary, he convinces Harry to go to Aspen to return the money. During the trip they get involved in several confusions, besides being chased by the kidnappers.
