Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves), a lawyer in a small Florida town who never lost a case, hired John Milton (Al Pacino), owner of New York's largest law firm. Kevin receives a high salary and several perks, despite the disapproval of Alice Lomax (Judith Ivey), his mother and a fervent religious woman, who compares New York to Babylon. At first everything seems to be going well, but soon Mary Ann (Charlize Theron), the attorney's wife, misses her old home and begins to witness demonic apparitions. However, Kevin is committed to defending a client accused of triple murder and is paying less and less attention to his wife, while his mysterious boss always seems to know how to get around each problem and everything that upsets the young lawyer.
