Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) is a woman in her 30s who is sentenced to 15 months in prison after committing crimes for her ex-girlfriend, drug dealer Alex (Laura Prepon) - whom she has not seen for over a decade. Piper exchanges his comfortable New York life, with fiance Larry (Jason Biggs), for the orange jumpsuit, and serves his sentence at the Litchfield Women's Penitentiary. To survive, she must learn to live with other inmates, such as Red (Kate Mulgrew), Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba). What Piper does not expect is to find the ex serving time in the same place.
