"The L Word" follows the lives and loves of a group of lesbians living in Los Angeles. The main character, Jenny (Mia Kirshner), is a recent graduate from the University of Chicago, and moves to LA to live with her boyfriend, Tim (Eric Mabius), who has just started a professional career as a writer. Jenny's life takes a turn when she meets neighbors Bette (Jennifer Beals) and Tina (Laurel Holloman), a couple who are about to take the next step and start a family after being together for seven years. At a party, Jenny meets Marina (Karina Lombard), the owner of a local coffee shop, and suddenly her impulse makes her start to question her own sexuality. Other friends of Bette and Tina include Dana (Erin Daniels), a professional tennis player, Alice (Leisha Hailey), a journalist, Shane (Katherine Moennig), hairdresser unable to be with just one woman, and Kit (Pam Grier), Bette's half sister who fights alcoholism.
