The new Prime Minister of England (Hugh Grant) falls in love with one of his employees, Natalie (Martine McCutcheon). In an attempt to heal his heart, a writer (Colin Firth) leaves for the south of France and ends up falling in love there. Karen (Emma Thompson) suspects that Harry (Alan Rickman), her husband, is cheating on her. Juliet (Keira Knightley), who recently married, is suspicious of the looks and intentions of Mark (Andrew Lincoln), her husband's best friend. Sam (Thomas Sangster) aims to get the attention of the most difficult girl in school. Sarah (Laura Linney) finally has a great chance to go out with Karl (Rodrigo Santoro), for whom she maintains a silent passion. Billy Mack (Bill Nighy) seeks to resume his career as a rock star. The lives of all these characters are intertwined and modified by the presence of love in their lives.
