The Affair explores the psychological and emotional effects of having an extramarital affair. Told separately from male and female perspectives - using each other's distinct memories, the series follows the drama of Alison (Ruth Wilson), a waitress at a popular restaurant in the Hamptons, who tries to put her life back in place. Cole (Joshua Jackson), her husband, struggles to keep the marriage stable, while seeking to control the financial situation of the ranch that has belonged to her family for generations. The couple's life becomes even more complicated when Alison begins to have an affair with Noah (Dominic West), a New York professor, an aspiring writer. Helen (Maura Tierney) has been the teacher's best friend, mother of his children and his wife for 17 years.
