Harriet Vanger (Moa Garpendal) disappeared 36 years ago, without a trace, on an island in northern Sweden. The place is exclusively owned by the Vanger family, which makes it inaccessible to the vast majority of people. The police were never able to find out what happened to the young woman, who was 16 at the time of the disappearance. Even after so long, his uncle Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer) is still looking and decides to hire Mikael Bomkvist (Daniel Craig), an investigative journalist who works for Millennium magazine. Bomkvist, who is not in a good time for facing a libel and defamation suit, decides to accept the proposal and starts working on the case. For that, he will count on the help of Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), an uncontrollable and antisocial private investigator.
