Iracema, Uma Transa Amazônica

In 1974, in the midst of the dictatorship, when the military government was showing the propaganda about the construction of “Brasil Grande”, Jorge Bodanzky, Orlando Senna and Wolf Gauer film Iracema - an Amazonian sex, fiction with a documentary feature that became a landmark in Brazilian cinematography. The film is a counterpoint to the official propaganda of the time about the Amazon, revealing the fires, slave labor and child prostitution through the story of the riverside girl Iracema, who, attracted by the big city and the language of the truck driver Tião Brasil Grande, ends up prostituting on the banks of the Transamazônica highway. Banned for six years in Brazil, he received numerous awards at international festivals. In 1981, he was the big winner at the Brasilia Festival of Brazilian Cinema.
