The story follows Yaguchi Haruo, a sixth grader in 1991 who loves video games. At school he is not popular and does not get along with teachers. The only ones he is good with are video games. One day he meets Oono Akira at the arcade, a girl in his class who is intelligent, popular, and adored by teachers. Both face a match from Street Fighter II, and continue for a long time until Haruo wants to lose 30 matches. Akira is invincible in any game. Akira begins to follow Haruo in all his matches to defeat him, this being a beginning of a strange friendship.
