Sinopse

Ted Narracot (Peter Mullan) is a fearless peasant and former war hero. With health problems and drinking, he battles with his wife Rose (Emily Watson) and son Albert (Jeremy Irvine) to survive on a rented farm owned by an unscrupulous millionaire (David Tewlis). Tired of the landlord's arrogance, he decides to face him at an auction and ends up buying a horse unsuitable for plowing services on his land. What he did not know was that his son would establish a connection with the animal never imagined. Named Joey by the young man, the two begin their training and develop skills, but World War I has arrived and the British cavalry takes him away, without Albert being able to enlist because he is not old enough. Already on the battlefield and for years, Joey shows all his strength and determination, going through different situations of danger and different owners, but fate has a surprising ending for him.
