A story of friendship between two very different people: Mary Dinkle, a chubby and lonely girl, aged eight, who lives in the suburbs of Melbourne, and Max Horovitz, a 44-year-old, obese and Jewish man living with Asperger's Syndrome in New York chaos. Reaching 20 years and 2 continents, Mary and Max's friendship survives far beyond the ups and downs of life. The film is a journey that explores friendship, autism, alcoholism, where babies come from, obesity, kleptomania, sexual difference, trust, religious differences and much more.
