Splendid 18th century England was the reign of Henry VIII (Johnathan Rhys Meyers). The series begins when he is still trying to reach the throne, as he distances himself from his wife and falls in love with Ana Boleyn (Natalie Dormer). Assisted by Cardinal Wolsey (Sam Neill), he came to power and remained strong despite intrigues and schemes. In his private life, he tries to create a way to divorce Catherine of Aragon (Marye Doyle Kennedy) to marry Ana Boleyn, amid many political disputes and schemes.
