Seth Brundie (Jeff Goldblum) is an eccentric scientist working on a new invention, a teleportation machine - the TelePod. Beside him, he has Veronica (Geena Davis), a journalist who follows his projects believing this to be the story of the year. When trying out his new invention, Seth doesn't realize that a fly has entered the teleportation booth. The unforeseen causes the molecular patterns of man and insect to mix and, little by little, the scientist undergoes terrible transformations.
