Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is a rapper who left the streets and prospered in music. Owner of the Empire label, he built an empire in the music business. When he finds out he has a serious illness, he decides to choose one of his three children - Andre (Trai Byers), Jamal (Jussie Smollett) or Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) - to occupy his throne.
