Chiyo (Suzuka Ohgo) was sold to a geisha house when she was still a girl, in 1929, where she is mistreated by the owners and by Hatsumomo (Gong Li), a geisha who is envious of her beauty. Welcomed by Mameha (Michelle Yeoh), Hatsumomo's main rival, Chiyo grows up to become the Sayuri geisha (Zhang Ziyi). Recognized, she started to enjoy a society full of riches and privileges until the Second World War radically changed her reality in Japan.
