Sean Archer (John Travolta), an FBI special agent, sees his son killed by bullets aimed at him, fired by Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), a psychopathic terrorist. For six years the agent tried to capture him and, when he succeeds, he discovers that a big explosion is about to happen in Los Angeles due to the criminal, who, soon after, due to an accident, goes into a deep coma. Thus, Sean Archer, using a revolutionary technique, exchanges faces with Castor Troy, to obtain the location of the bomb with his brother (Alessandro Nivola). But the criminal comes out of the coma and now he has the face of FBI agent Sean Archer.
