In the early 20th century, the Crawley family struggles to maintain Downton Abbey's legacy. After the death of a relative who was aboard the Titanic, Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville) discovers that the property's new heir is a distant nephew, Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), a lawyer with modernist thoughts. While Robert and his wife Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) worry about the future of their daughters, Mary (Michelle Dockery), Edith (Laura Carmichael) and Sybil (Jessica Brown Findlay), the mansion's employees work to maintain the family's routine, with all the rules of the time.
