In 1994, a political conflict in Rwanda led to the death of almost one million people in just one hundred days. Without support from other countries, Rwandans had to find ways out of their daily lives to survive. One was offered by Paul Rusesabagina (Don Cheadle), who was the manager of the Milles Collines hotel, located in the country's capital. Counting only on his courage, Paul housed over 1200 people in the hotel during the conflict
