Early 1970s. The impact of the Vietnam War in the United States is overwhelming and police corruption in New York is gigantic. With the endorsement of police authorities, the mafia traffics in narcotics, without actually being threatened. In this context ascends Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington), apprentice to one of the greatest black leaders of the post-war, who takes advantage of the death of his mentor to assume the leadership of the traffic in New York, since he sells a purer and cheaper product. Lucas soon becomes a celebrity in the city, surpassing his competitors in the market in which he operates. But Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe), a relentless detective, decides to take action to disrupt Lucas's business.
