The series tells the story of Will (Will Smith), a young man of humble origin who moves to a luxurious neighborhood in California. After making trouble with dangerous people in his neighborhood in Philadelphia, Will's mother, fearing for her son's future, decides to send him to live with her sister Vivian (Janet Hubert-Whitten) and her brother-in-law Philip (James Avery), a lawyer who became a judge and has a very successful life. However, because he is a humble boy and does not care about his studies, Will is always behaving inappropriately and causing trouble to his uncles and cousins in the mansion.
