John (Owen Wilson) and Jennifer Grogan (Jennifer Aniston) recently got married and decided to start a new life in West Palm Beach, Florida. There, they work in competing newspapers, buy a property and face the challenges of living as a couple. Undecided about his ability to be a father, John seeks the advice of his colleague Sebastian (Eric Dane), who suggests that he buy a dog for his wife. John accepts the suggestion and adopts Marley, a 5 kg lab who soon turns into a big 45 kg dog, which makes their home a mess.
