Max Renn, the owner of a small cable television station, captures images of a "snuff", which would be scenes of people who were actually tortured and killed. Initially the signals seemed to come from Malaysia, but later it turns out that they were generated in Pittsburgh. Gradually Max learns that this broadcast is called Videodrome, which is actually much more than a morbid television show. Max begins to suffer bizarre and hallucinogenic effects from these transmissions, finding himself in the midst of the forces that have created and want to control the Videodrome. But Max discovers that his body may be the last weapon he can use against his enemies.
