The film shows the adventures of João Grilo and Chicó, two poor Northeasterners who live by blows to survive. They are always deceiving the people of a small village in the Paraíba hinterland, including the feared cangaceiro Severino de Aracaju, who is chasing them around the region. Only the apparition of Our Lady can save this duo.
