He-Man lives on the planet Eternia, a seemingly medieval world but full of advanced technologies. Eternia is also full of magical beings. While the planet is ruled by righteous King Randor, the Skeleton villain tries to dominate Grayskull's castle, and thus has control of the entire universe, which is protected by He-Man, no less than Adam, Randor's prince son. The guardian of Grayskull Castle is the Witch, who turns into an eagle when needed. Apparently it is she who bestowed He-Man's powers on Prince Adam, however, in one episode, the two swords of power are shown, meaning Adam and his sister are chosen by the swords. She is also Teela's mother, adopted by Mentor.
