The Sandman

The story is seen from the point of view of Dream, one of the perpetual seven, the anthropomorphic representation of the dream, initially trapped by a group of humans who wanted to trap their older sister Death so they could become immortal, but fail and capture the dream.

Dream (who is also known as Morpheus, Sandman, Oneiros, (Lord) Shaper, Kai'Ckul, lord of dream and several others in now-forgotten languages) is the ruler of the Dreaming. He is an Endless - the Endless are anthropomorphic manifestations of aspects common to all living beings: Fate, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium. The perpetual 7 are not gods, but entities beyond, responsible for the ordering of known reality. Its existence alone holds together the physical universe and all living beings.
