Dora (Fernanda Montenegro) works writing letters for illiterates at the Central do Brasil station, in the city center of Rio de Janeiro. Although the clerk does not send all the letters she writes - the letters she considers too useless or unrealistic -, she decides to help a boy (Vinícius de Oliveira), after his mother is run over, trying to find the father he never knew, inside from northeast.
