The Elephant Man

The story of John Merrick, an unfortunate citizen of Victorian England who had the most serious case of multiple neurofibromatosis on record, with 90% of his body deformed. This situation tended to make him spend his entire existence exhibiting himself in circuses of varieties as a monster. Initially he was considered to be mentally weak due to his difficulty in speaking, until a doctor, Frederick Treves, discovered him and took him to a hospital. There Merrick freed himself emotionally and intellectually, in addition to being a sensitive person to the extreme, who managed to regain his dignity.
