In the not too distant future, boxing fights are no longer fought between human beings, but through huge robots, capable of delivering ultra-powerful and impacting blows to the opponent and to the spectator. In this environment, Charlie (Hugh Jackman) is a bankrupt ex-boxer who turns around with obsolete and, almost always, losing machines. Living in favor with Bailey (Evangeline Lilly), daughter of his late trainer, he ends up being called by the Justice because of the death of the ex-wife and the future custody of their son. The problem is that Max (Dakota Goyo) is 11 years old, Charlie has never had the slightest contact with him and, therefore, prefers him to stay with his sister-in-law, by paying a large "reward". But the boy is very smart and gradually wins the fighter's heart. To top it off, the boy is a beast in video games and has real chances to help him train a new combat machine and change their fate forever. Now, all they need is to start from scratch and move up the ranking to face the champion of the champions.
