Christian (Ewan McGregor) is a young writer who has a gift for poetry and who faces his father in order to move to the bohemian Montmartre district in Paris. There he receives the support of Henri de Toulouse-Latrec (John Leguizamo), who helps him to participate in the social and cultural life of the place, which revolves around the Moulin Rouge, a nightclub that has its own world of sex, drugs, adrenaline and Can-Can. Upon visiting the site, Christian soon falls in love with Satine (Nicole Kidman), the most beautiful courtesan in Paris and the biggest star of the Moulin Rouge
