Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) is a dedicated family man who witnesses the murder of his wife and daughter. One of those guilty of the crime faces a sentence of just 5 years thanks to an agreement made by prosecutor Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), who believes that it is better to have some justice than the chance of not getting any. Ten years later, the killer is found dead. Even without sufficient evidence against him, Clyde is arrested for what happened. Its main objective is to denounce the inconsistency of the judicial system, which allows murderers to be released or to obtain lenient sentences, even if it requires eliminating all those involved. But Nick faces a problem: despite being in jail, Clyde always seems to be one step ahead of everyone
