Rikki Chadwick (Cariba Heine), Emma Gilbert (Claire Holt) and Cleo Sertori (Phoebe Tonkin) are three teenagers who find themselves trapped on the island Mako. At night, they decide to take a bath in a lake under the island's sleeping volcano, while the full moon illuminates them. Eventually they are rescued, but when trying to return to their normal lives, they encounter a small problem: they become mermaids when they come into contact with water.
